In Search Of Asylum

Torture, beatings, murder, rape.
I fled to Britain to escape.
But when I got here, what did I find?
The very things I'd left behind.

Locked up, hated, disbelieved.
Forced to subsist on a voucher scheme.
Allowed much less than I need to survive.
Dependant on others to stay alive.

Bogus, scrounger, opportunist scum.
Your thoughts of me are just not fun.
There's no reason to despise or hate
A persecuted member of the human race.

All I'm asking for is human rights.
But they have been denied me both day and night.
If only it were safe, I'd go back home.
But until that day, it seems I'm on my own.
